Live2.ai has raised ₹130 crore in a round led by IvyCap Ventures. It helps brands track online conversations, analyse campaigns and turn videos into shopping links. The company says it works with more than 200 brands and earns 90% of its revenue overseas. Impressive, perhaps. But how much of its value comes from technology that someone else already owns?

Live2.ai wasn't born with the AI boom. Its parent, Woovly, began with travel discovery, moved into social commerce and then sold shoppable videos to businesses. The AI pitch came later. That history isn't a weakness. It helps explain why the company has customers. Investor Xelpmoc reported annual recurring revenue rising from $2.4 million in May 2025 to $4.1 million in May 2026. L'Oréal selected it for a 2024 technology programme, while Live2.ai tools have been detected on Schwarzkopf websites. These relationships are credible, even if the contract values remain unclear.

But what does Live2.ai actually own? Its disclosures mention OpenAI, Google's Vertex AI, Whisper and other existing technologies for analysis, transcription and compliance checks. Connecting these tools into a reliable system takes engineering. Yet competitors can use much of the same technology. Sprinklr, with over $857 million in annual revenue, already sells social listening and AI marketing tools. India's Konnect Insights says it serves more than 500 enterprise brands. Live2.ai is entering an established market, not creating a new one.

Competition will only get tougher. General-purpose AI agents can increasingly monitor information, analyse content and prepare reports. They cannot easily replace enterprise systems with permissions, integrations and shopping features. But many tasks used to justify expensive software subscriptions are getting cheaper. Companies like Live2.ai will have to show customers that their systems deliver better results, not simply more AI features.

The financials also need explaining. Woovly India's reported FY25 revenue fell to ₹6.7 crore from ₹14.7 crore, although those figures may cover different operations from Live2.ai's recurring revenue. Xelpmoc's reported brand count moved from 280 to 245-plus. And the new round includes partial exits for existing shareholders, without disclosing how much is fresh funding or the valuation.

IvyCap could still make a good investment. A company needn't invent AI to become valuable. But when competitors can reproduce the underlying technology, customers, deep integration and proven results become everything. Otherwise, investors risk paying a premium for a workflow that grows easier to copy each year.
