Back to the Roots: How Mudgar Club Is Reviving India’s Ancient Workout Culture

Mudgar Club is an Indian fitness startup on a mission to revive ancient strength-training traditions. Founded in 2022 by brothers Anjit Suhag and Sanjeet Suhag from Rohtak, Haryana, the venture brings handcrafted wooden fitness tools like mudgars, gadas, Persian meels, and Indian clubs into the modern wellness space.
Mudgar Club designs and manufactures traditional Indian fitness equipment using premium hardwoods such as mahogany. These tools are tailored for functional training, enhancing grip strength, joint mobility, and overall body coordination. Beyond selling equipment, the brand offers online tutorials and training programs to help users incorporate these tools into their fitness routines.
Anjit's journey began with yoga, but he sought a more dynamic form of exercise. His discovery of mudgar training through a teacher in Kerala ignited a passion for traditional Indian fitness methods. Recognizing the lack of quality mudgars in the market, Anjit and Sanjeet took production into their own hands, relocating to Dehradun to craft high-quality equipment. Their commitment to authenticity and craftsmanship laid the foundation for Mudgar Club.
Mudgar Club gained national attention after appearing on Shark Tank India Season 4. The Suhag brothers' passionate pitch and live demonstration of mudgar exercises impressed the sharks. They secured a deal with Ritesh Agarwal, who invested ₹50 lakh for a 12.5% equity stake, providing the startup with both capital and mentorship.
With the boost from Shark Tank, Mudgar Club aims to expand its product line, enhance its online presence, and establish training centers to promote traditional Indian fitness practices. The founders envision a future where mudgar training becomes a mainstream fitness choice, blending cultural heritage with modern wellness trends.
Mudgar Club exemplifies how traditional practices can be revitalized to meet contemporary fitness needs, preserving cultural heritage while promoting holistic health.
